Modified Files:
xtrn/syncarcade/games.ini
Log Message:
Revert "Added many more arcade games, based on mame 0.78 ROMs"
This reverts 079b5fb887 (spec-11-bytes, 2026-07-31), taking games.ini from
4740 romset sections back to 181.
A section in this file used to mean someone had run that cabinet and put it here deliberately, which is what makes the file a sane home for button
labels, stick2, boot_frames and analog_rest. After the bulk import a section meant only that the romset exists in MAME 0.78: of the 4740 sections, every
one carried a name and exactly five lines in the whole file were anything
else. Restoring the smaller file restores that meaning, which the per-romset settings depend on.
Load time is a secondary reason and a narrower one than it appears. The
native door reads this file through xpdev's iniReadFile and was never on the slow path; only the lobby's File.iniGetAllObjects() was, and that is fixed
in 7a0dabc561 (2026-07-24) for v3.22. The 204 KB cost fell on v3.21 and
earlier alone.
The names are not lost and need no file of their own: git show 079b5fb887:xtrn/syncarcade/games.ini recovers all 4740 entries, and that
commit records where they came from. A sysop with a large collection can extract them into their own games.local.ini, which is where entries nobody
here has run belong.
Nothing curated is lost in the revert: the bulk commit dropped none of the
181 existing sections and changed none of their values, so its 354 deletions were re-sorting alone.
