LORD SERVER FOR WINDOWS 1.3 and LORD FREE PASCAL EDITION
Two new ways to run Legend of the Red Dragon ========================================================================

    Hello all,

I've been working on two Legend of the Red Dragon projects and both are
now ready for other sysops to try.

    LORD SERVER FOR WINDOWS

A LORD game server in the style of TWGS. It runs on a Windows box and
    players reach it two ways:

    - telnet straight in, with their own login
    - an rlogin door from your BBS; the player is created from the BBS
user name, with no extra password

So players from several boards can share one realm. Other features:

    - several games on one server (A, B, C ...), each with its own
    players
    - a live sysop console showing who is on, with kick, settings,
    game set-up and game reset
    - runs as a Windows service, or in a console window
    - DOS IGMs from 3RDPARTY.DAT run through DOSBox-X, which is
included with a small FOSSIL driver. Tested with The Dragon
Vault, Barak's House and The Pawn Shop 3.40
    - installer, MSI or plain zip, for 64-bit Windows 10/11 or
    Server 2016 and newer

Version 1.3 fixes the player editor: turning Dead off for a killed
player now also restores their hit points.

LORD FREE PASCAL EDITION (LORD FP)

A rebuild of LORD in Free Pascal, based on the JavaScript LORD that
comes with Synchronet. Each download is a complete game, ready to set
up from scratch - you don't need LORD already installed:

    - DOS: LORD.EXE and LORDCFG.EXE with the stock LORD 4.06 data
files. Already running LORD 4.06? It can also drop into your
existing directory and keep your players, IGMs, LADY scripts
    and MAINT.BAT
    - Linux: a native door, no DOS emulator needed for the game itself

It reads the common drop files (DOOR.SYS, DOOR32.SYS, DORINFO and
others), and the full source code is included.

    TRY IT OR GET IT

Play both on Kalgoorlie Retro BBS: telnet bbs.theiguru.au, then X
    for the games.

    Downloads and documentation:

    https://games.theiguru.au/lordfp/

They are also in the Heisenbergs Files area on the BBS (log in to
    download).

Questions, bug reports and IGM test results are welcome here or by
    netmail.

This is pretty slick sounding! I might have to add it to my LORD menus! The server in particular! Is there a website with a server launchpad (not meaning to start the games, though that could work, but to list them all!)?

    Hi Martin,

Thanks. There's no list of servers yet. It's only just been released, so
mine is the only one running so far. If others set one up I'll add a
server list to the LORD Server page.

You're welcome to add mine to your menus. It's an rlogin door, the same
idea as linking to a TWGS game. Your players are created on the server
from their user name the first time they go in, with no password prompt.

    Address: bbs.theiguru.au
    Port: 5130 (rlogin)
    Game: A

The server only accepts rlogin from BBSes I've allowed. I've added 75.174.135.95 (shsbbs.net). If your board connects out from a different address, netmail me and I'll add that.

On Synchronet, in SCFG > External Programs > Online Programs (Doors),
    add a program with:

    Command Line: ?rlogin bbs.theiguru.au:5130 -t xtrn=A -P
    Multiple Concurrent Users: Yes

"-t xtrn=A" takes the player straight into game A and back to your BBS
when they quit. Leave it out to show the server's game menu instead.
On other BBS software, use its rlogin door or gateway with the same
address and port, user name as the client name, and xtrn=A as the
    terminal type.

    Hi Martin,

    A follow-up to my last message. I've written a step-by-step page for
sysops who want to link their BBS to the LORD Server here:

    https://games.theiguru.au/docs/lordsrv/link_your_bbs

It covers Synchronet (SCFG, field by field), Mystic and other BBS
software, plus what to check if the door doesn't connect.

Since then the server has gained BBS keys (version 1.4): a BBS can sign
itself up and link from anywhere, without asking me first. Your players' accounts on the server then carry your BBS's tag (Bob@TAG), so a Bob on
your board and a Bob on another board are two different players.

The door I gave you last time still works as it is, because your board's address is on the server's allowed list. The page describes the key
method, which I'd suggest if you'd rather keep your players separate from
other boards' players with the same names.

Netmailed you my IP. I'm behind a VPN for outbound traffic. I'll add this as soon as I hear from you. With telnetdoor (or rgterm), do I send the username with -Y or -X? I think -Y, -X is typically the password. -Z would be set to the game, I think.

    Hi Martin,

Got your netmail with the VPN address, thanks - it came through fine to 3:633/290.

You don't need to wait on me, though: your board has already signed
itself up and it works. From the server log (times are server time):

    12:53 sign-up from 146.70.174.158, tag SHS
    12:54 sign-up from 146.70.174.158, tag HEAVENLY
12:55 Shurato@HEAVENLY entered game A, played, logged off normally

Because you link with a BBS key, the VPN address doesn't matter. The
key is checked, not the IP, so I haven't added 146.70.174.158 to the
allow list and you don't need it there. If your VPN exit changes, the
    door keeps working.

    The rlogin fields
    -----------------
rlogin sends three things. Whatever your door program calls its
switches, this is what each one has to carry:

Field What to put in it Example
    --------------- ------------------------- --------------------
client user the player's name/alias Shurato
server user your BBS key XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
terminal the game to start xtrn=A

Host: bbs.theiguru.au Port: 5130 (rlogin, not telnet)

There is no password. Since 1.4.1 the server also accepts the key in
the client-user field (Mystic sends the password field there), so if
the two name fields come out swapped it still works. But the player
name has to be in the other one, or every caller lands on the same
    character.

For telnetdoor/rgterm I can't tell you for sure which of -X/-Y is which
in your version, but your 12:55 call already had it right: the key went
in as the server user, "Shurato" as the client user and xtrn=A as the
terminal. Whatever command line you used for that call is the one to
keep. If you were going by the usual Synchronet-style door command:

    ?rlogin bbs.theiguru.au:5130 -s YOUR-KEY -t xtrn=A

the player name is filled in from the caller's alias.

    What your players see
    ---------------------
Each caller gets their own character the first time they come in, named
from their alias. On the server the account is stored as Name@HEAVENLY,
so your Bob and another board's Bob are two different players. Inside
the game they show as just their name. Game A is the same game my own
board plays, with The Dragon Vault, Barak's House and the Pawn Shop
    installed.

    Two tags
    --------
You signed up twice, so there are two tags with two different keys:

    SHS - no calls yet
HEAVENLY - the one your door is using now

Unless you want both, tell me which one to remove and I'll delete it.
I'd suggest keeping HEAVENLY, since Shurato already has a character
under it. Note the tag is part of every player's account name, so
switching tags later means your players start new characters.

If you lose the key, let me know and I'll issue a new one for the same
tag (the old key stops working, accounts are kept).

Ok, got a key! Get rid of the SHS tag, I hit the right mouse button before I selected the text and the screen went away before I was able to copy it... Any way, we're on now! Using rgterm or telnetdoor like any BBS without native rlogin capabilities.
