Uhm, do you have any Italian ancestor in your family? ;)
My mother and father were both 2nd Generation Italian... in other
I would bet on it! :)
:) :)
words, both their parents came to the U.S. from Italy. What is sad to
me is that both my parents refused to teach us to speak Italian (6
children) because they wanted us to 'fit in' American culture :(
IMHO they did right. Remember that USA given to them the opportunities that > Italy refused to them.
There were times at the dinner table when my parents would speak Italian to each other if they did not want us children to be included in the conversation.
During those moments, I remember my mother scolding my father, saying "Your Italian is pathetic, you speak Italian like an old lady!!" haha.. he would reply with a string of expletives that I tried to remember :) I only remember a few of those, some related to "bust your gut" hehe
Under some points of view USA is a great Country, everyone has an opportunity to have a great and succesfull life, but I think that the Anglo-Saxon way of life is missing a bit the culture of solidariety.
If you're stong, capable and stright you win, the other are loosers and who cares about them.
I think that when my grandparents came to the U.S.A., it was true that so many had an opportunity to make a life for themselves here. My mother's father repaired Sewing machines, my father's father worked in coal mines. And yes, these days I think it is harder for new people coming to this country... very sad.
I like more the socialist/communist vision, but as the story tells, this >vision >is a loosing one and the capitalysm won! So please be nice with this >old rusted > Italian communist, do it for your origin. :P
:)
And so later, I did have to teach it to myself :) I already had
studied French, Spanish and Latin so it was not difficult - It's been
a long time since then though <grin>
Grande, quindi parli pure Italiano, un totale di 6 lingue, complimenti! :)
Grazie! Le lingue erano facili da imparare per me... :)
It's funny, when I was a small child, about 8 years old, I was reading an Encylopedia my parents owned (I couldn't find enough books to read!!)... there was a section that showed the French for the song "Frère Jacques" word for word
with English translation under each word :) I studied that for days I remember
and then I tried to make my own sentences haha :) Later I really studied French in High School and College :)
Of course! It is all I have in my house. I stopped buying 'regular'
olive oil a very long time ago. I only cook with Extra-Virgin, and it
is definitely imported from Italy :) It is much better for you, and
in my opinion, you cannot make a good 'Clam Sauce and Linguine'
without it :)
Ok, now you're in my "Fidonet Hall of Fame"! :D
:) :)

Btw, I did get your receipe in netmail, thank you it looks wonderful
:)
It's delicious and the meat is really smooth and tasty! :)
I'm going to try it soon. I have to buy a decent wine first :) All I have in the house right now is some terrible "cooking wine".. The Holidays did in all the good wine :)
Do you want my recipe for Tiramisu? I made this desert for the
members of the Cooking Echo picnic a number of years ago, and it came
out really well <bg> As a matter of fact, my mother and I put together
a cookbook of all the recipes she and I used over the years so that
everyone in our family could enjoy cooking :)
What you did with your mother is awesome. A good witness of the good time spen
together behind the cooker, is a great present for the sons. ;)
I keep trying to get my son interested in cooking.. he only wants to EAT what I
cook Lol... My daughter is like me though, and she cooks just like I do :) She
has 3 sons so it makes sense. My son had a girlfriend for long long time, but they decided not to marry and then split up... Someday I'm sure he will find the right person :)
I'll be glat to look at your recipe, we can swap the recipes of the Tiramisu' (the u is with the accent ;) ) so we can look at the differences.
That sounds great, I will send it tonight to your system :)
Buon Anno Nuovo. ;)
Buon Anno Nuovo a te :)
It's been too long though since I studied Italian, I am not sure if the endings
above are correct :( Time to dig up the books again <grin>
Ciao!
