As long as you have the options... :) I've given people rides for
years, and now have learned to ask when I need one... and offer to go together other times (me driving)... :)

If there is someone going in the same direction I am I will ask
for/accept a ride. But I wouldn't dream of asking someone to take me somewhere.
There are times I'll be going a short distant and be offered a ride and decline preferring to walk.
I have always been a very independent person.
