    Hi,

    What is the right practice of merging nodelists?

    I have the following lines in my nodelists.ini file:

    nodefile=/mystic/nodelists/fdn/NODELIST
    nodefile=/mystic/nodelists/fdndaily/Z1DAILY

    When I run ./mutil nodelists.ini, I get repeated entries.

    If someone can clarify something for me. Z1DAILY is a subset of
    NODELIST, am I right? So if I merge the nodelists, wouldn't repeated entries be removed? Or did I misunderstand the purpose/idea behind
    merge nodelist?
    Thanks

    Hello Edmund,

    I have the following lines in my nodelists.ini file:

    nodefile=/mystic/nodelists/fdndaily/Z1DAILY

    Mutil will look for both NODELIST.* and Z1DAILY.* in the directories given.

    If someone can clarify something for me. Z1DAILY is a subset of
    NODELIST, am I right?

    No, Z1DAILY is a full nodelist produced daily. NODELIST is the regular weekly nodelist.

    The daily nodelist (Z1DAILY) will contain newly added nodes and will not contain removed nodes. The nodelist will catch up on friday.

    So if I merge the nodelists, wouldn't repeated entries be removed?
    Or did I misunderstand the purpose/idea behind merge nodelist?

    I think merge nodelist will merge all the nodelists you provide regardless of what they contain.

    Hi Alan,

    By 'merge', I assumed it'd consolidate repeats. But reading what you wrote, I'm guessing the other 'merge' meaning applies; that is, it takes the two nodelists and merge them together. With that understood, I've just taken to
    use NODELIST instead.

    Thanks

    Correct. This is more directed at the OP but...

    Merge nodelists looks in your nodelist directories and finds the latest nodelist for each of your networks you've configured. It then copies them into Mystic so they show up in the nodelist browser/searches.

    Mystic doesn't require nodelist compilation or partial nodelist merging, it just uses full nodelists now that data transfer of a nodelist is insignificant...

    The idea being that you don't have to over complicate your nodelist stuff like you used to back in the days. You can simply point Mystic to your file base directory that receives the nodelist for each of your networks, and Mystic automatically keeps it all updated for you.
