I was hoping one day to see the HTMLterm come to fruition, but it was pretty much deprecated before it even had a chance :(

SlyEdit won't let me quote your message for some reason. (Nightfox, maybe you should try it out and see if there's an issue.)

I vaguely recall discussion of HTMLterm probably 15 years ago. At the time I was interested in it just on general principle because it seemed like a wacky innovation. I didn't really understand what it was meant to be, though; the concept seemed a bit slippery. Today I'd be a lot more skeptical of it. Is it a terminal? A browser? Both? Where is the line drawn? Why not just use a browser?

I have mixed feelings about the flashy features in SyncTERM today too, but at least in those cases there's prior art and justification for them existing in a terminal emulator. And no reason other terminals can't or shouldn't implement them.

    What does QWK prepack do?

Allows a sysop to have their system preemptively create QWK packets for specific users (e.g. QWKnet nodes), nightly.

Once upon a time, creating a QWK packet took a measurable amount of time (exporting the messages to QWK format, zipping the messages into a .QWK file), and QWKnet nodes might want to save those long-distance phone charges and have their packet already created and waiting for them when they made their once-a-day phone-modem call to their QWKnet hub to upload their replies (from the day before) and download their new messages in a QWK packet. I doubt anybody needs this optimization any more.

I have one dial up user that still uses a QWK offline reader. Hopefully they won't be impacted by this change ... ?

If you've never heard of Pre-packed QWK, then you're not using the feature and your dial-up user won't know if it's removed. I believe this to be true of every other Synchronet system too.

I made a change in dd_lightbar_menu.js about a week ago, but it was a fix for refreshing the scrollbar. I wouldn't expect that to have anything to do with the quote selection for SlyEdit.

What does "Attach/FrontDoor-style FidoNet mailer support (SBBSecho)" do?

There are 2 types of FidoNet mailers: FLO/Binkley style and Attach/FrontDoor style. This is what the EchoCfg->Global Settings->Mailer Type option selects.

For decades now, nobody has used SBBSecho with a an Attach/FD style mailer, so it likely doesn't even work correctly in that mode.

    regarding ident queries..

imo queries make sense to me if you're shelling out from one bbs to another, and could be used just like how irc uses it (block a specific user from a
bbs that behaves crazily, without banning the whole bbs)

perhaps go the other direction (if it's not already there) and allow blocking ip/ident pairs..

not sure why the ircd doesn't use it either.. it's specifically for identifying individuals on multiuser systems

*shrug* as usually "easy for me to say" :) .. just seems like supporting it fits the general concept of sync (which supports finger..)

No, but it's been documented as not-recommended, disabled by default and generally a bad idea.
If you really use/need this feature of the mail server (do you?), I would consider adding the ability for *authenticated* SMTP clients to send email directly to user numbers, but that could also lead to confusion (why does this email address work for some senders, but not others?).
