I saw Star Trek 31 and all I can say is where did they come up with
that crap? It had nothing to do with the Federation and nothing to
    do with Star Trek.

In fact I fell asleep half way through and didn't even bother to go
back to see how it ended.

Gene, Majel. Jimmy, Dee and Leonard all must be spinning in their
    gaves over it.

I agree, it wasn't good viewing at all.

I think it's an interesting idea, dealing with the Federation at the
fringes. There's a series of books called "Star Trek: Vanguard" that
have to do with a federation space station at the edge of Tholian
space. It feels like DS9 on a much larger scale.

It's set in the TOS era. There's lots of references and some crossover
that makes it an entertaining read - and there's something like 10 books
in the series written by a couple of authors.

There's also the book series, Section 31, a 4-book series from 2001 that's pretty good, IMO.

Oh man, it was so bad. Just for kicks, though, I watched it a second
time pretending like it wasn't Star Trek. It was just ever so slightly
better. It didn't make it good, just not AS bad.

Actualy since I have the discs I've startet to rewatch Voyager. There were some pretty good episodes in it. Even in the first two or three years before they got "rid" of the Kazon and also before the Kim / Nelix romance crap ended, (was nost anoying and WAY overdone), and before they got Seven of Nine.

Of course like all series there were some real stinkers too.

I enjoyed Voyager. Discovery got on my tits. Very annoying. I'll be glad when they're all assimiated by the Borg. I thought 31 got canceled. When did they start showing it?

It hasn't become a series, and hopefully it won't. There's only the movie. It premiered last year, I forget when.

Ah ok. I suppose we'll have to watch it since we've ploughed through everything else apart from some of the newer movies.
