• Looking for BBS with abandonware

From Dustin Picciuolo@21:2/131 to All on Sat May 31 11:41:17 2025
Does anyone out there have a good filebase of abandonware doors, apps, utils for BBS? I have a few, like from the web and from /r/bbs but I was wondering if anyone actually had them accessible to download from a bbs.

TitanticBBS has a huge selection of downloads, but if you're particularly looking for doors that are registrable, check out the fool's Quarter website.

I invite you on over to 2oFB; 20ForBeers.com:1337

We have the largest file archives on any BBS - you can check the LocalZzZ File Conference's BBS Software File Area, and the Paulie's BBS Software Collection File Archive; which is a HUGE collection of MANY BBS archives.

Furthermore, use the search function to scan all 60+ File Conferences as they cover LOTS of retro goodness of all hardwares, OSes, etc...

It works perfectly with Mystic's web server, just no search function since that uses PHP and Mystic doesn't have that capability yet. Otherwise it all works the same, it's all generated static HTML files from an MPY script.

I just don't know how to add flisterz, but I need to. Its prolly not that tough... ChatGPT for the win??? :P

It's pretty much setup to run right out of the box with no search capabilities by default.

You just have to make sure your regular user level is the same
as in the .ini file (it's set for 50, change it to your board's regular user level if need be, this is to restrict file areas and groups set with higher security levels for non-privileged users from being generated), drop all of the files in the package somewhere in your script directory, like "scripts/flisterz/" and if you want to test it just create a sysop-only menu item in the BBS somewhere that runs the MPY.

It should just create everything needed immediately. Then just
follow the instructions about adding it to your Mystic events.

Had to check your tagline, you're running Linux, that's perfect. It definitely should just work right off the rip, no special tweaks for Windows with symlinks.

Kk - my regular users are s20, with EXTENDED ACS @ s50... but I might set it to s50 and only offer the www file areas for EXTENDED; special File Conferences, and all...

Paulie can correct me if I'm wrong but there's also a master list of all the files you can download. Yo can download that text file and then grep it for what you're looking for at a later date.

I was downloading some abandonware (DOS based) from 2oFB a couple o nights ago and it might be 'just me' but I downloaded a batch download with Y-modem batch using mTCP Telnet. The batch worked fine when the files were in the same file base/group, but as soon as the files came from another group, a data error occurred. What was more annoying is that it cleared the entire list of marked downloads, not just the ones that had already been downloaded, so I had to remember what I marked all over again. Is this a bug in Mystic or is this something nuanced to 2oFB? Or do you think it's just mTtelnet?

NB the reason I used Y-Modem (if you are curious), is because mTCP doesn't support Zmodem and I'm (nauturally) using real hardware, so downloading via HTTP isn't an option.

Anyways I thought I'd let you know so you might be interested in testing for yourself.

    Cheers!

Gosh - no, it was PROBABLY some file that doesn't exist in the file system for some reason or another - I need to run a mutil file pack. :/

Sorry about that... sometimes when pulling from File Conferences/Areas that are on my NAS some file won't be present or exactly what Mystic is expecting... the issues of having so much data going into BBS software.
