I have the combination of tty0tty, tcpser and dosemu running under
debian11, but have the problem that despite a "RING" and "CONNECT57600"
no complete connection to a DOS BBS inside dosemu is happening. it stops
    after "CONNECT57600".
i still think that i might need a better Hayes Init string for the tcpser modem.

The mailbox i test it with is RemoteAccess 2.62.. tested with local
telnet command and syncterm from another computer in the network. fossil drivers i tested it with are fossil.com (that comes with freedos in
dosemu), x00, bnu and adf. all with the same result.

any help in that regard would be much appreciated!

Sorry, dont have any suggestions for you.

I've been running tty0tty, tcpser with dosemu (inside docker) - and its never missed a beat. (Both on the Pi and Intel.)

Start tcpser with some debugging so you can see what's going on (-t sS) and that will atleast show what is going to the serial side.

The only tricky thing I recall is when you have both tcpser and dosemu using the same tnt device - they shouldnt (they are device pairs and each side uses one of the pairs).

I've never played with tcpser so I'm certainly no expert. But one question, do you mean this as literally as you've written it?

    "CONNECT57600"

No BBS software is going to use this connect string by default. It would be expecting "CONNECT 57600" or other such speed. If the emulated modem doesn't return an expected result code, the BBS will not acknowledge that a connection has taken place.

in the meantime i was able to connect to the BBS by using Frontdoor to establish the connection and afterwards load the BBS. I dont know why RemoteAccess does not establish the connection but Frontdoor does. It is
    what it is.
But still, transfers from and to the BBS don't work. That is now to
figure out. i am currently trying to use external zmodem protocols like
    pd zmodem.

ok, i gonna check if i have changed those settings in regards of CONNECT strings in RACONFIG. Thanks for the hint.

so, now i have checked the modem response settings in raconfig. its
behaving a bit strange. i first tried to get a space in between CONNECT
and 57600 and had to use 2 spaces to make 1 space appear. did not help.
then i tried 1 space and then 2 spaces after RING cause the string i get displayed in the status window of RA is actually RINGCONNECT57600.

finally with 2 spaces after RING it finally moved on and connected to the
BBS. Very strange. i dont remember that i had to do that back in the 90
    :)

btw with 1 space between CONNECT and 57600 in the settings it now shows
the 1 space correct in the status window of RA on incoming call. like
CONNECT 57600. when it needed 2 spaces just a moment ago to show up
correctly. i'm not sure what is happening here, but i leave it the way it worked and never touch it again :D

But i think continue to let FrontDoor make the connection. It adds to
    the Retro Flair hehe..

    Thanks for the hint,

So I replied to your email - but I thought I'd mention it here.

Since you are a Hub 3 node - I've got a new mailer that I've written where I have more control with Zmodem. How about I put you on it and we can try somethings and see if we can get it stable.

I just need to finish my echomail export code (which I have mostly done).

sure, i just may need i bit to find out how to configure FrontDoor and
McMail. Just 27+ years later and i dont remember much ;)

I use FrontDoor here - and so does Spectre.

Never used McMail though... but I'll be curious to see how it works...
