Awesome news - is this your first Amiga???
I suggest Chris Edwards youtube channel if you ever need to repair anything - he's covered every model and has dozens and dozens of repair, and other, info videos...
Open her up and remove the battery if it's not already been done.done by seller
They leak acid all over the mb and destroy them.the amimi4 is all good! :D
Do a youtube search for cleaning the board up.

Adrian Black (Adrian's Digital Basement) and Jan Beta are good too!

Adrian recently did a really nice callout to 2oFB in one of his 286 videos. :P I was st0ked and still get callers/users from it.

Reach out in FSX_RETRO if you ever want help!
Enjoy this magical time, where you get your first Amiga, and you think you'll be happy with just one Amiga. :P
I still need to get my CD32 going again, get a new case for my A500,
make new KS ROMs for my A1200...... The fun never ends!
Cheers,

Lucky lucky.
In college, most everyone who wasn't in CS got a Mac Plus on one ofyooooooo sick pc compatibles!! <3
those horrendous, Apple Credit cards with the 24% APR.
CS geeks had cobbled together ATs and the odd 386, using Procomm to connect to big iron and Turbo C or MS C to compile locally.
I had an XT case with an AT motherboard bought at a swap meet. Soldered
in fsaster clock crystal. Most of the stand-offs didn't line up, so the motherboard was secured to the case with one screw and pieces of styrofoam. An RLL drive that sounded like a bathroom fan, keyboard port didn't quite line up, and once in a while you had to jiggle the power switch to get it to come on.
I only knew one Amiga user, come to think of it didn't even know they
had a simple compiler for sudent use!

I keep my bbs fairly compatible. I always try to make sure that my board doesn't look crappy, but it does at least work 100% on a retro PC. I
can't say I've tried it using a real terminal like Procomm but I dare
say it should work there too. It definetly works on Michael Brutman's mTelnet.
If you can, I'd recommend you have a 'compatible' version of 204beers,
and I appreciate you for enabling UTF8 so that mTelnet works, there are
a few other enhancements you can make to your board to make it have a compatible mode. BBSes are retro things, therefore I always think that they should stay retro, for example, big screen 120xwhatever doesn't
work with a DOS computer, therefore I don't consider those a true BBS. 20forbeers does rock, and I'm glad that Adrian showed off a really good example of a BBS. Shame it couldn't work 100% for him, but still, it is
a great BBS!

I've thought about two options for legacy hardware; one is just having
an ASCII/light ANSi version of 2oFB - but it wouldn't be all of what
the main board is. Another idea was to have STOCK BBS softwares all
under one 2oFB legacy-friendly matrix login; Telegard, Searchlight,
CBBS, Obv/2, etc etc etc - with a local FTN so all the message areas
were all 'networked' (locally).

I always referred to mTelnet as the one that comes with mTCP:
https://www.brutman.com/mTCP/mTCP_Telnet.html
That one always worked fine for me on my DOS computer with regular old CP4
I'm now thinking maybe I've been referring to it by the wrong name this wh time as I don't believe the Brutman one does UTF8 at all... oops! :)
Its just simply not an option at this point - I've spent days, months and modifying 2o... I always laugh b/c 2oFB isn't the best designed bbS at ALL but it is what it is; and I'm lucky that the ppl love it. :P

I mean, option one sounds less hassle to me, but if you have the time,
do what pleases you the most! Personally, I think there is very little
of 2oFB experience I am missing out on right now. A few weird things are being screwy, but mTelnet can handle standard ANSI emulation, animated ANSI, it's just weird totally non-standard stuff that's going to throw
it, and anything like that is not why I connect to a BBS anyway! Those things are novelties at best. I have the Internet for all my whiz-bang graphical goodness I figure.

they didn't get all the functionality.

There are ANSI terms for Atari 8bit. I can't remember if I tried
Flickterm on 2oFB but I know ICET wasn't able to handle the ANSI.
haven't tried yet is either BobTerm

with the ANSI either, though :).
I've tried both, and while Flickerterm doesn't crash out on the ANSIs as much as Ice-T does, both of them still have a problem with Mystic detecting them as 40 columns. On 2oFB you can't change that in the Account Settings menu, so it's sort of unusable from those two terminal programs. Something I haven't tried yet is either BobTerm or VT100 with XEP-80 hooked up for 80 columns. I'm thinking they won't work so well with the ANSI either, though :).

https://github.com/jhpyle/mTCP/?tab=readme-ov-fileIt certainly did resolve a lot of 'issues' which Michael B didn't care about. I have used it myself. Not sure if you have noticed though, it certainly runs slower than Brutman's. Michael himself muttered something a while ago about it being sloppy code/bad loop routine or something of that ilk, I'd have to read my email to find out.
that's my default telnet client for a while. and it also fixed PGUP/DOWN
among many other that Brutman never cared about.
Funny I onced emailed him if he intents to bring ssh client to his bundle he mentioned that PCs he's targeting are not capable of it..
Damn AMIGA has this capability and he's pushing unicode to what... connect modern machines from legacy 286? for what reason...
so long story short. I respect some sort of networking stnadard he introdu to my MSDOS box initially but I don't believe many of his decisions are tr something that this community really needs anymore.
A fork is what I like more for years.
For ASCII though, how do you go about setting it up for 80 col? I've
only ever used it in 40 col.
I reckon the Atari Bob Term had the same feature(s) as the program I
used. Ed
I still wonder if I find time to buy and test Fujinet one day.
You could connect your Atari to the PC and run Fujinet firmware on that (aka Fujinet-PC). The FTDI usb to ttl modules are like $3-4 on eBay, if that. Here's how I connected mine up, with female to female Dupont jumpers: https://i.imgur.com/Qz20mcE.jpg
With an XEP-80 (or clone made from
a Pi Pico).
It does not. BobsTerm for C= and BobTerm for Atari are totally different programs by different people. I tried BobsTerm and didn't like it much, but I had no idea it had a host mode! I will have to go back to it and see if I can get it to work with a wifi modem.

Beautiful - I have both an Atari 400 and a 600 that I need to dive into soon enough. Not sure that either is working well just yet - as I don't get any prompt, or BASIC prompt (alth I think that requires a cart...):DDDDDD

Time will tell - I need some carts for those two machines... guess eBay will have to be my friend. :P

I LOVE 20 FOR BEERS!!! <3
who doesn't love 20forbeers?!
I love the aesthetic of the original 800 myself, the XL was just great an all, but the 800 was this massive heavy thing which had a really nice keyboard and those big rom carts (x2), so from a design perspective, 800 wins all day.
What still amazes me is that the 800 and 400 were released in 1979. Some of the stuff they did was way ahead of the computers that were released for many years. Consider the C64, ZX Spectrum, etc etc. Each of those platforms were good in their own way, but they didn't come out until 1982. The Atari had it going on well befoer then!

The 800XL came with five or so different keyboards. Most of them were definitely not as good as the 800's, but one of them - the ALPS one -
is one of the best keyboards in the world (imo, of course) when nice
and new. Also I'd argue the sleek 80s/futuristic design of the XL was cooler ;).
I'm old-school at the core. I'd still like a pizza box desktop sytem inu 2 huh? <3
