We held a memorial service for my mother yesterday. What you don't think about when you experience the loss of a parent is trying to write a
eulogy that enompasses everything about someone who was such a large
part of who you've become.
Words are never enough to convey the proper sentiment, but I'll say them anyway: I'm sorry for your loss.
I know what you mean about a eulogy trying to encompass everything a person
is. I lost my last grandparent last year and offered to say a few words at the service. One of the most common lines that everyone who spoke used in their talk was something to that same effect of trying to capture everything or properly paying them homage.
In the end my Aunt said some words about what kind of a father he was, I said some words about him as a grandfather, one congregation member & another pastor said some words about what kind of a pastor he was. It was nice hearing about the different facets one person can play.
Even though everyone said I gave a nice & genuine talk I still sometimes think back as to whether I could have said more or if it was "enough".
Now, we're off to Russian river - a little bohemiam town up
near California's wine country to hang out, relax, read, go wine
tasting, barbecue and hopefully go tubing on the river if the levels are high enough.
Sounds like a nice break, enjoy!
Jay
