Even the local thrift stores no longer sell them. Have seen pallets full out back wrapped up to go wherever. From what I understand...with laws in Oregon...they may not be able to resell them. Not sure about that.
The local recycler told us that (for them, at least) there was a benefit from
the gov't for getting rid of CRTs (both in money and not having to handle certain "hazardous materials"), but that benefit had a time limit.
Here in Oregon...that sounds about normal. A couple of years ago...the state put in laws to get rid of the thin plastic shopping bags. Now...they charge .05 for each paper bag. Also have the thick plastic ones which are reusable.
While living in Twin Falls about 10 years ago...found a 19" Dell CRT monitor at the Salvation Army thrift store for $5-10 US. Didn't want to haul it to Colorado...so just left it with my former roommate.
That's my my local Goodwills would take old TVs for a while, then put up a sign
telling people that was ending, and now will not take CRTs anymore.
Saw some of the large Mitsubishi projection TV's for $400 each. Had 6 of them...but not sure if they were able to get rid of them. For that price...could get a screen & a decent projector...especially with the size of these. Former landlord died & sold the one he had for around the same price. Had to haul it out of the basement to put it on the guy's truck. Thought I was going to lose some valuable body parts. ;)
This is why I love the mini systems...such as the Commodore systems and the retail version of the Lenovo PC I picked up off Ebay for $50 with a DVD drive.
Most of mine are small and/or portable. But items with the larger CRTs need to
have a permanent desk space. The others can be stored on a shelf until I want
to play with them.
NICE! As for the stuff like the PET's & such...can 3D print a case & use the screen from a cheap tablet or a screen from Adafruit. For that matter...have an RCA projector I've been thinking of putting my Series S on it. The big screen I have is hanging on the wall beside my bed. Just need to find a way to hang the projector in my room in the apartment. Not for lack of mounts (2 of them)...but don't want to drill holes in the wall/ceiling.
