Honestly not sure if this one will happen or not?

It sort of seems like one one side you have locals asking for it not to
happen because of covid-19 outbreaks and the like and on the other side business and commercial sponsorship interests wanting it to go ahead?

I feel for the athletes who just want to compete but I'm equally sure they
want to do it safely too... what a conundrum.

Yes, it's especially hard on the elite athletes, who put everything into it. I've had a milder form of the same experience, with two national championships cancelled, along with what was to be my first international meet, but I at least have other aspects of my life to draw on.

Well I dunno if that's going to happen. There's a lot of money there, so what *should* happen and what *will* happen may be two entirely different things, but in the meantime, we can all take care ourselves to be safe irrespective
of what's going on elsewhere.... or rather, we can try our best to remain

It's happened twice before. Carter Pulled the plug on the Olympics in Russia and then they in turn did the same to us the next time around. That's not a cancellation in it's entirety, but during that era, it seemed, as far as the media coverage's narrative of the events was concerned, that it was just the
US and Russia that mattered as far as tally's of medals were counted.

Of course, the games did go on, but without one nation one time around and
then another the next time around, and honestly, it was less fair to the athletes of all the world when those two games occured than it would be to cancel the entire Olympics due to the SARS we're dealing with now...

And it made each of those two nations appear to be exceedingly petty, since they boycotted due to political reasons and retaliation for being boycotted, and that's not what the games are about at all - they're a celebration of the human spirit, not a political mantlepiece.

Yeah, again that's not just for the elites. A combination of cancellations and future scheduling can have serious implications for us amateurs, such as when a major international meet that's relatively close is impacted, the next opportunity may not be viable due to cost of other reasons. But it is what it is, a pandemic respects no one. :/

of COVID outbreak, and it isn't cancelled, doesn't this just fuel the conspiracy folks?
