Speaking of retro/ascii games, I never post about this one because it's been covered before - but have any of you ever jumped into Ascii Sector for a good play?

Its pretty deep... kinda like Tradewars 2002, but with a little heavier graphics. Its not full text mode, but its close... and is totally worth checking out if you haven't played through.

I can waste a weekend once every couple years with a good ole AsciiSec run. Grab it- play it- love it.

This is the first I'm hearing of this game. I checked out the website and it looks pretty cool. I'm impressed someone put this much effort into an ASCII game. :-)

I wonder if it would work over Telnet....

So... minus the online & multiplayer, but it plays like one. Would actually be way cooler - WAY - if it were.

It has a learning curve, but you'll be trading in space with a little bit of wiki reading... its pretty large, and really fun.

Using ascii, they generate different planets to land on, trade, get hired for bounties, etc etc..

Ship upgrades, trading and jobs to complete, join alliances and tons more. Its awesome... I should do a writeup of all my favorite ascii based games, but Lunduke already did a great job:

Cataclysm
SSHTron (quick, easy, SSH-play... fun for 10 mins)
DRL & DoomRL (2 of the same game, that we just discussed a few weeks ago.) Dwarf Fortress (If you're more Zelda than Tradewars, THIS is the BIGGEST ascii game ever. The world is IMMENSE - its not my kinda thing, but is AWESOME.)

Throw some of these on cool-retro-term and geek out over Xmas break. w00t w00t!!

Its not true ascii... its like ascii characters, but drawn in x11/sdl.

Still really feels ascii-only tho.
