The majority of the content I'm reading isn't linked elsewhere, like
in a post that's just a link to an image, or a link to an article
elsewhere. Like I mentioned, I'm an edge case here - my environment
is vDOS (like DOSBOX), and doesn't easily support copy/paste out of
the environment.
Noted. Although I don't require a multi-step copy/paste with
OpenXP (I use more modern and supported software. <g>),
following a message thread with subsequent links as the main
content of communication would be combersome.
not flash thoughts of horror and indestictiveness from the web. Links
and URLs are a normal thing to provide when writing a message.
Horror? Said no one.
That's my creative writing emerging. :)
What exactly is the uniqueness that you speak of? A feeling?
Long form posts not limited by an interface that hinders writing.
Threaded conversations. Full headers (to/from/subject) and quoting.
Original content. Message order controlled by the reader. Real names,
"real names", or aliases - pick one.
Stas' bot has done pretty good in a pretty short time. The FTN
header and kludges seem to represent more than the minumum
required. TgM messages are fully threaded and graphically
represented using OpenXP.
.. and I appreciate the diversity that came when callers
roamed the BBSes. It would be nice to get some new
perspectives in here.
I almost succeeded in rounding up two ex-echomail users from
years ago to rejoin us on Fidonet (via Telegram ofcourse! <g>)
..but they do not have cell phones (which is required to
receive the activation code via sms), yet.
They are quite comfortable with the "appearance" of Facebook
style messaging. They are not interested in using the old-
fashioned fixed-width DOS-like screens typical of the BBSes
they remember. They would be fine with something new. They
like the screenshots I provided of sample Telegram sessions
using the desktop app.
Aftershock/Hotdoged is limited to the smartphone/tablet. They
do not want to be tied to just those devices.
